Added a bunch of people whose journals I like and/or whom I've talked with. Hello!

In random news, this is the most motivational image I know. It will be on my coat of arms when I get one, and my motto will be "Exactly how bad do you want it?", but in faux French.

Okaay... normally I prefer to wait with reccing a story until it's totally complete. This one is sort of complete, but in a 'The Empire Strikes Back' kind of way. Like, Han Solo's just been frozen in the carbonite, the end? So. I really need to know how the story continues (and as I understand it the writers have sequels planned.) It's a novel-length gen Apocafic AU fusion fic which I guess makes it something of a harder sell, still I don't understand why I doesn't have more comments. Maybe it is just hidden too well.

Anyway: if you like dark-ish apocafic with action this is a good read! I hope I can point a few more readers that way and hopefully drum up some more comments too, because I really want that sequel and, I don't know about those guys but I know that personally I'm just more motivated when I get some feedback. :)

Post-Apocalyptic Leverage AU fusion with the Jericho and Miracles settings (sans characters)
56,663 words; Gen; team/casefic; PG-13

Summary: The September Attacks changed everything, and not just in the 23 cities that were wiped off the face of the map. Boston may have been one of them, but the Leverage crew escaped through the interference of Paul Callan and the other members of Soldaritas Queritas, fleeing the city for the relative safety of the small towns. Events beyond their control, however, drive them to split up and the battered Leverage team is forced into a confrontation that they’re not quite prepared for.

In a town already ravaged by the aftereffects of the bombs, they discover that children and adults alike have gone missing, and the carnival just outside of town looks awfully suspicious. Now they have to work there for a living, keep one of their own safe, and play detectives in a situation where they might just be in over their heads.

With a mysterious illness and outside influences to contend with, they have their work cut out for them...

My left ear has a new hole in it. Helix, at about 11 o'clock. I got it done on Monday, and so far there have been no problems with it. In fact, it hurt less than the last one (same position, different ear.)

It cost only $40 this time around: $25 for the piercing, $15 for the jewellery, and nothing for the aftercare spray because I already had half a bottle from last time.

I now have a total of four piercings per ear, and am symmetrical again.

I will now quote from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service's FAQs, because they baffle me:

Ear piercing: If you have just had your ears pierced and this was performed with clean, single use (disposable) equipment, only the plasma portion of your donation can be used for 24 hours following the procedure. You can then donate blood for full use. [...]

All other piercings: If you have had another body part pierced and this was performed with clean, single use (disposable) equipment, only the plasma portion of your donation can be used for four months following the procedure. You can then donate blood for full use.

Um. I assume that their thinking here is that ear piercings heal quicker, therefore body piercings will cause antibody levels to be higher for longer. That's the only reasoning I can think of that makes some sort of sense. Except that it's more complicated than that, and depends on which body part and also which part of the ear. If they really think that my helix piercing will heal up faster than some guy's PA, they're a) wrong, and b) missing out on his blood for those four months.

Indie juggler, conjurer and impresario Mat Ricardo sez,

Earlier this month we launched the first in this season of Mat Ricardo's London Varieties - the combined comedy variety and interview show that comes live from the Bethnal Green Working Mens Club in London. We had a ball. You should have been there!

But it's ok, because next month's show is even better - cabaret superstars Frisky & Mannish, amazing dance troupe The Twilight Players, and the astonishing juggler and yo-yo-ist Arron Sparks will make up the variety part of the show, and then I'll be sitting down and chatting live on stage to legendary UK comedy writer and twitter guru Graham Linehan. Also, I'll be attempting the new trick that I promised to try to learn last month (newsflash - it's not going well...), we'll be showing some rare archive variety footage, I'll be telling you what happened when I was a guest on the Jonathan Ross Show last week, plus lots more actual fun surprises!

It's going to happen at the Bethnal Green Working Mens Club, East London, on March 8th. Doors 7pm, show 8pm sharp. It's a small venue, and tickets are limited.

Today I had an hour long meeting with two teachers trying to set up a library at their school. It's extremely gratifying having two people telling you how awesome you are at what you do all through an hour. I kept telling them that getting money for their project will be like lobbying for anything else, and to try and view it as politics. They seem to have a lot of drive, so I hope that helps them. It's already a good sign that they contacted a professional for advice and didn't go right ahead and did things they thought seemed like a good idea.

I have GT tonight. My throat still feels meh, though. The Tuesday rehearsal went okay, but it could have been better. It's so fascinating how much of singing is in the brain. There's a high note at the end of Singet Dem Herrn I can do every time np now, because I went for it two weeks ago and it worked. We sing it in old... temperance? tuning? so it's a little lower than what it appears to be. I wonder how hard I would find it if it was written as a high C. Lol!brain.

In other news, two cups of coffee in one morning is one cup too many.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

As many Italian businesses do, my company closes down for two weeks in mid-August. Every year I am forced to take those two weeks off, whether I like it or not.

The boy has recently found gainful employment again (huzzah), which means he won't have accrued a lot of time off by the time August rolls around (and being the most junior employee in his office YET AGAIN he will get the little time off he has a right to in the off-peak season, anyway, i.e. from September on, when my teaching terms starts).

So, we won't get to have a holiday together this summer, and we're going to have to turn down my BFF's invite to do a (short) road trip in New England with her and her boyfriend. :( Oh well.

However, something quite brilliant just occurred to me.

How about spending those two weeks doing some sort of intensive Norwegian course...in Norway? :D

PROS Norwegian learning. ♥ In Norway! ♥ ♥

CONS The cost. Norway is unbelievably expensive.

But anyway, this is a great idea. Will have to look into schools that offer intensive Norwegian courses.

PS: Since I'll get another week off in late July/early August anyway, the tentative plans for a week in Finland are still go, [personal profile] misscam and [personal profile] unikorento. I'm game if you are. Do remind me what dates work best for you guys.

My friend <lj user=birdsedge> just posted this:

Zulu Emergency Fund

Zulu TraditionIn a friendslocked post earlier today, I posted to say that the wonderful group of singers and dancers 'Zulu Tradition' (currently in the UK and based in Huddersfield) just received the bed news that the brother of one of their number has died in South Africa. Mzwandile's brother leaves behind three children, and Mzwandile's mum is distraught and wants her boy home for the funeral.

That's Mzwandile Ngema top left in the picture with the blue background. Front is Bongi Gwala. The other three are l - r Thandanani Gumede, Buhle Mhlongo and Khethukuthula Kheswa.

These Zulus had a particularly hard time with a previous manager a couple of years ago. I can't say much about that because there's a court case ongoing to try and get recompense for them. Suffice it to say that raising the money to get Mzwandile home in time for the funeral is going to be almost impossible for them. I've secured him a ticket with my credit card, and he flies tomorrow morning, early, but the cost is £753 just for the air fare, not counting incidental expenses. They've promised to repay me, but it's going to be hard for them.

The wonderful [info]la_marquise_de_ offered to make a contribution to a Zulu emergency fund to get Mzwandile home (and back again). While I heartily appreciate anyone offering to make a contribution, because the Zulu guys have had a very rough deal. I don't want to beg something for nothing, they wouldn't feel happy about that, and neither would I, however if any of you would like a very fine CD of Zulu singing in exchange for a contribution towards Mzwandile's trip, I would be delighted.

I won't set a price, (send as muich as you like or as little as you can afford), but if it were a commercial release it would not sell for less than £13.50 including postage. I'll pay for the postage and anything you send will all go to Mzwandile. Post me a cheque or pay me by paypal and without giving away who contributed what I'll keep you all informed as to how much we manage to raise. The target is £753, but anything we can raise towards that would be brilliant. My LJ flist is not large, so feel free to boost the signal if you wish.

Post your cheques payable to 'Zulu Tradition' to me, Jacey Bedford at 10 Park Head, Birdsedge, Huddersfield, HD8 8XW. Anyone not in the UK can pay me by paypal. email me on agency(at)jacey-bedford.com for details. Don't forget to include your postal address for a CD by return of post.

You will receive a CD recorded in BB's studio when the Zulus were with their previous manager. (And I hasten to add, it was made before BB and I knew how difficult that relationship was for the Zulus.)  I see no reason why the recording shouldn't be used to help them out now. It's a set of songs that never had commercial release, but here's Shosholoza.as a taster.

You can read more about the Zulus, now working as 'ZULU Tradition', here.

Just listen to the song clip...  I've already sent  a donation.

DP6 has been uploaded to the printer and soon we will begin on the first of many proofs and edits.

I’m also tweaking away at uploading dp0, con, and gee bas to the new printer (creatspace.com)

Hopefully once I get the first two gee bas books reformatted then I can plug in a book 3.

At some point I’ll harass Nigel the Pirate into sending me more scripts for a second pirate book. But that’s after I get all the other Devil’s Panties books uploaded and format them into digital media.

So much to do, so few clones.

In the past few weeks I’ve found that, late at night, Facebook can send me into a fit of incoherent, mindless rage. I stomp around the house pulling my hair and try not to post anything until morning.
